Because of its steep terrain and its many slopes, the Costa Brava offers a wide variety of viewpoints: elevated, at the seafront, central, intimate… The traveler who enjoys taking pictures of landscapes will find in the Costa Brava his particular paradise.
And since the abundance of viewpoints can be overwhelming along the coast, we will go in parts. In today’s post we will focus on detecting the best viewpoints in the area of Baix Empordà and surroundings. If you are staying at the GHT S’Agaró Mar or GHT Xaloc hotels, located in Sant Feliu de Guíxols and Platja d’Aro, respectively, this post is for you!
Cap de Creus viewpoint, Cadaqués
Its great charm is also its handicap handicapCadaqués is far from everything. However, you can’t experience the coast without visiting this town in the Alt Empordà, the best way to do it is to go to the Cap de Creus lighthouse! You will find a classic viewpoint, the typical balcony overlooking the sea from which you can contemplate Cap Norfeu, Cadaqués, El Pení, Cala Fredosa, Cala Jugadora… and some red-hot sunsets that you will not easily forget.

Punta del Molinet, Estartit
In the town of Estartit are the Medes Islands, one of the most amazing landscapes of the Costa Brava, declared a Specially Protected Area of Mediterranean Importance (SPAMI). Punta del Molinet is the perfect viewpoint to contemplate it in its fullness. Beyond the promenade and the port of Estartit, along a pleasant stretch close to the sea, is the Molinet rock, the closest point of land to the Medes. At this point, words are superfluous.
Sant Sebastià Lighthouse, Palafrugell
In the eastern part of the town of Palafrugell, on top of a hill that separates the coastal towns of Llafranc and Tamariu, is the Far de Sant Sebastià. Built on a terrace 169 meters above sea level, it is one of the viewpoints (in Catalan known as “mirador de la hostatgeria”) of reference in the area, as well as a very interesting architectural ensemble. Be warned: from here the sunrises are hypnotic.

Begur Castle, Begur
Many visitors agree that the Castell de Begur, built in the eleventh century by order of Arnust de Begur, offers one of the most beautiful views of the Costa Brava. One of the most characteristic points of the viewpoint is its urban character, as it is located in the center of the village. The traveler who decides to visit it will be able to see the Medes Islands, Sa Riera, the Canigó, the mouth of the river Ter, the cape of Creus… An exceptional experience.
Chapel of Sant Elm, Sant Feliu de Guíxols
In front of the esplanade of the hermitage of Sant Elm, in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, the traveler can enjoy one of the most spectacular views of the place. It is a viewpoint so open to the sea that you can enjoy two views: north, a perspective of the stretch between Tossa de Mar and Palamós; and south, a bird’s eye view of the beach of Sant Feliu de Guíxols. Will you miss it being so close?
