Located between the municipalities of Castelló d’Empúries and Sant Pere Pescador, the Aiguamolls de l’Empordà Natural Park is one of the most special natural areas in Catalonia. This wetland is formed at the confluence of the Muga and Fluvià rivers and is a true sanctuary of biodiversity. A paradise for birdwatchers, nature photography enthusiasts or for those seeking a haven of peace.
An ecosystem of great richness
The Aiguamolls de l’Empordà are home to more than 300 species of birds, many of them migratory, such as herons, storks, flamingos and birds of prey. This protected area is made up of lagoons, marshes, flood meadows and canals.
During spring, the park reaches its peak expression of life: birds nest and the fields fill with colour. It is in this season that the area becomes, without a doubt, one of the best times to visit.

Routes and Activities for Everyone
The park has several well-signposted routes, many of them accessible, allowing visitors to explore the wetlands on foot or by bicycle. Many activities for all audiences are also held. Among them are:
- Birdwatching with binoculars or telescopes.
- Nature photography.
- Guided tours organised by the park’s information centre.

For guests of GHT Hotels, visiting the Aiguamolls is an excellent option to experience nature in its purest form, learn about the environment and enjoy a relaxing and enriching experience during their seaside holiday.
