The good thing about rice is that everyone can find their ideal combination: seafood, with ribs, “socarrat or caldós”, sea urchin or lobster, artichoke or eggplant, mixed or purist…. There is something for everyone. In today’s list we present some of the restaurants on the Costa Brava where you can enjoy finger-licking rice dishes:
Restaurant Hotel El Far, Llafranc
With the passage of time the “socarrados” rice dishes of this hotel restaurant have become very popular on the Costa Brava; let’s say that they have found the perfect point between sweetness and baking. Their variety and commitment to local produce means that their terrace, one of the largest on the coast, fills up easily. Some of our favorite rice dishes: turbot and prawns, Iberian prey and ceps, Palamos prawns and butifarra del Perol. Put on your bibs, please.
Solimar, Pals
For some, the best paella on the Costa Brava. Its secret is the combination of quality product and technique accumulated over three generations. In the words of David, its owner, to make a good rice you need “good sofrito, exceptional “fumet” broth and onion cooked over low heat”. The menu ranges from classic paellas (mixed, lobster, seafood) to the most modern ones, such as the vegan one, made with vegetable broth. For palates that know how to appreciate what is really good.
Ses Paelles, Cadaqués
They knew how to give Cadaqués something it didn’t have enough of: a rice restaurant. Although in its beginnings it was a beach bar, in 2013 they became a restaurant. Their philosophy is to offer only fish rice dishes, holy limitation! Of sea urchins; lobster, crayfish and prawns; fish of the day; baby squid and prawns… and all of them without onions. An example that with clear ideas and good work, you can make rice with more character in the area. For the impulsive ones: open on weekends until Easter and uninterrupted from June to September.
Leon, Llafranc
We can not fail to mention this family restaurant (between mother, grandmother and grandchildren cover all fronts), located in second line of sea, an establishment without apparent charm, actually hides a treasure: the quality of their rice. It is highly recommended for any day, after walking the coastal path that connects Calella with Llafranc, sit in the cool interior of the Lion and taste their mixed paella or rice with lobster. Word!
Ca l’Herminda, Port de la Selva
This restaurant knows all the mysteries of paella, they have been serving it for more than 50 years! Their specialty is the “caldosos”. Some of our favorites are sea goat, cuttlefish with crayfish or shrimp and mussels. With fresh and freshly made products, Ca l’Hermida has won a legion of fans.
La Selvatana (Palamós), Garbet (Portbou), Can Parera (Viladamat), La llagosta (Llafranc)… are some of the restaurants where you will also taste rice dishes that will take your breath away and will make your days on the Costa Brava an experience you will want to repeat every year.
